abdominal cancer

what is the survival rate of this cancer?i understand there are no numbers set in stone it depends on the persons will to live and priop health but just wondering in a world class athlete at an age of 27 what is the chance of survival?

To make any kind of guess about survival you need to know what kind of cancer it is, its stage, and what kind of treatment is being provided.

What organ is involved? Are you talking cancer of the stomach, colon, pancreas, liver, or what?

Then you need to know what type (e.g., adenocarcinoma, etc.)

Then you need to know the stage (how far has it spread).

Then you need to know what treatment has been/will be used.

Good sites for information on cancer are the national Cancer Institute at http://cancernet.nci.nih.gov/index.html and the American Cancer Society at http://www.cancer.org/.

I guess you’re talking about Saku Koivu.

As far as I can tell from the sketchy reports, the cancer was diagnosed by analysing “abdominal fluids”. If so, this means he has ascites, i.e. a non-specific collection of fluid between the inside of the abdominal wall and the internal organs. It’s basically a form of internal swelling.

In any case, virtually all forms of cancers can lead to ascites, or can spread to the space between the inside of the abdomen and the internal organs. As Yeah said, it depends where the cancer started.
