About Britney Spears

Well, that’s what I red, anyway.

As recently as last week, Britney was videoed in another of those public restrooms*, asking a photographer, in a chatty, friendly tone, to go back to her car and get her makeup bag for her. I mean, she was in the single-occupancy bathroom, being filmed, giggling away like this was normal.

Even more recently than that, photographers were changnig her tire for her. They cautioned her to stay out of the car while this was happening. So what does dumbass do? Gets into the car to retrieve something. Then they warn her not to close the door. So she closes the door. And remember, it was photographers who were doing this for her. They pump her gas, they get her mail out of the mailbox for her (!), they perform all kinds of services for her, because it’s a small price compared to what they get for the photos. It is a symbiotic relationship, and I firmly believe that the outbursts are staged.

And why shouldn’t ordinary citizens get fed up? Okay, I think the yelling woman may have been a few cards short herself, but a different woman threw coffee on Brit’s car recently. Know what set her off? Darling Britney stopped her car in the middle of Starbuck’s parking lot, blocking traffic, which was further blocked by the swarm of photographers. I’d’ve been pissed off too.

I totally agree.

I don’t follow her career closely, but it seems that Christina is trying to set herself up for her future adult career. Part of that is not playing the pop princess anymore. She’s still in the public eye, but to a much lesser extent, and her persona has become a lot more “respectable.”

I mean, the last magazine cover I saw her on was the AARP magazine, fer gosh’s sake!!!

Of course, Britney doesn’t have a future adult career to set herself up for, but she could certainly “train” the paparazzi the way Christina did.

Other posters above have mentioned Drew Barrymore and Jodie Foster. I’ll throw Brooke Shields in there too. They each went about it differently, but they all managed to stop being tabloid fodder by not publically doing stuff that is interesting to tabloid audiences! I mean, yeah, they were in the rags periodically, but “hey, here’s Brooke Shields graduating from Princeton” is a whole different thing than “hey, here’s Britney Spears showing off her unsightly vagina.”

Eh, count me in as one who does feel sorry for the Brit-bot. I just don’t think she’s very bright.

Same woman, it was later proven. How strange that, that woman happened to show up where Britney was two days in a row- the second time having the paps turn to her and record her going on some BS diatribe against celebrities.

Christina grew up, Brit didn’t.

I never understood why Brit was “bigger” than Christina, Christina is the one with real singing talent and she also writes songs.

I see.

Speaking as someone who has seen both perform in concert, they both of their strong suits but Britney puts on a better show. Christina can sing, but her dancing is awkward. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes one goes to a concert just to hear a vocalist sing, but for $150 a ticket, I want a little show to go with my vocals. I was definitely blown away by her voice though.

Britney always puts on AMAZING shows. Sure, her singing isn’t the best (though she does sing the ballads live, usually), but her dancing, the theatrics of it all, etc. are all incredibly entertaining. It’s like watching Cirque de Soleil, but with pop music. That concert didn’t leave me feeling like I had wasted a bunch of money.

What do you say after reading this, though? Also, the past is not the present, so let us move passed our confusion and use the words correctly, please? (I only mention this because I have seen the word passed used instead of past multiple times today on this thread alone.)

There’s a good article in this month’s “Vanity Fair” (with the Kennedy/Avedon photos on the cover) about Hell’s Triumverate (Britney, Lindsay and Paris) and their mothers. By far the most normal one is Lynne Spears. Her big ambition in life was to be a college professor (I believe she’s a teacher) and if she did endorse/promote Britney’s career, she seems to have done so in a manner totally more appropriate than either Dina Lohan or Kathy Hilton. She apparently has tried to help her daughter, but promptly got slapped with a restraining order by Britney. It was a very enlightening article.

VCNJ~

I feel no different than I did before.

Kindly show where passed instead of past has been used incorrectly oh grammar Nazi

The part that bothers me the most is how everyone is forced to spend all that time watching Brittany on TV, and reading magazine articles about her, and searching the web to get the latest outrages. The woman is costing the country billions by forcing so much attention onto herself. Think of the money we would all save if we didn’t have to buy all that stuff!

I think someone should go on strike, and just ignore her.

Tris

Nobody is forced to watch TV or read about her, nor are they obliged to trawl the web, they do this out of choice and a perverse sense of “there but for the grace of God”

Nobody has to buy anything and as for costing billions, I have no idea how you get that or the fact that she forces so much attention on herself.

It’s Britney BTW, Brittany is in France

Then again I have a feeling I’m being whooshed

Yes, I was being sarcastic.

However, if by some miracle everyone in the media, and everyone who uses the media were to independently decide they had no interest in Ms. Spears I think it would be beneficial to the world, and to her. She would probably have some trouble making the adjustment to being not famous, but many people are able to bear that particular burden throughout their lives.

It ain’t gonna happen, though.

Hell, for that matter, lets take some potential publicity hos.

Jennifer Lopez - someone who has never impressed me but could easily become tabloid fodder - she photographs well, she dates a variety of ill chosen men - has managed to keep herself on the “good publicity” not the “bad publicity” side. I’m sure she’s followed everywhere she goes, but she doesn’t feed them.

Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston went through divorces that rocked the gossip rag world - and somehow both have managed - for the most part - to deport themselves with class. You know they’ve been followed by the press while they went through that and somehow I’ve never seen a crotch shot of either of them.

On the plus side - eventually they’ll be Winona Ryder. Once they get to be a certain age, and their stunts are eclipsed by younger women who have done outrageous things they’ll be yesterday’s news.

Kidman, at least, knows what to wear down under.

cmkeller - Oh, that’s so bad. Just terrible.

I didn’t want to name names, because they did make a good point with their post, but here is one:

That should read “Britney is past the point of no return”.

And again here:

If that read “She has long (ago) passed the point of no return.” it’d be correct. But if that is to read “She is long past the point of no return.” then it isn’t correct. Maybe the first is what Diosa meant? :frowning: FTR, it isn’t just you Diosa, really. I had seen that same mistake in other topics the day I posted before this one. I do see your points Diosa, but I still think she’s mentally ill. She needs help. She could have a better life, and “train” the paps to leave her alone. She also could get clean, and begin to mature again. It is sad to see someone going through this, even Britney Spears. But for now, it is good that those kids are away from her. And, for now, I can’t feel too sorry for her because she continues to be unwise, over and over. Like a person with no short-term memory touching a hot stove over and over. :frowning:

Clarifying: Except with Britney, she doesn’t have the excuse of a knock to the head or organic disease. She’s just not yet taking in the lessons from “The School of Hard Knocks” for whatever reason. She’s not learning from things “Gee, I got burnt there, I shouldn’t let that happen again, what can I do to prevent it?” If she doesn’t have a clue where to begin, she should seek help to figure it out. I hope she does. That will be a small bit of wisdom.

You’re dead for a real long time
You just can’t prevent it
So if money can’t buy happiness
I guess I’ll have to rent it …
