When something is not very good, I’ve heard it described as “below par”…yet in golf, to be below par is actually good and being above par stinks. Is the word par being used incorrectly here?
I guess you haven’t taken the time to actually look it up in a dictionary, then.
My dictionary describes par, as concerned here, as “an amount that is accepted as the norm.”
Under that definition, it is good in golf to below the norm (you know, low score is good and all that). In the most situations however being below the norm is a bad thing.
My golf scores are generally above par, this question was below par, clear?
