Absentee/Mail Voting

Until today I couldn’t find answers to the percentage of those voting absentee or by mail (an earlier thread of mine). However, the WA Secretary of State has these numbers:

2.6M voters in WA state
1.3M-1.4M “absentee” ballots
About 900,000 of those absentees will be mail Monday/Tuesday

According to political commentator Melissa Lyons, who appears regularly on KIRO newsradio with Dave Ross, about 25% of the national vote is now via mail.

OR is voting entirely by mail – and actually expects the turnout percentage to increase to above 70%.

AZ and NV both have absentees/mail-ins accounting for 40% of their numbers.

So when will we know election results (not just presidential)?

About Washington, from what I understand, absentee ballots must be postmarked by today, but could be delivered as late as Nov 22! That’s two weeks away.

Well, the Postal Service isn’t usually that inefficient. The vast majority should be in by the end of the week.

In Oregon and California, the ballots must be in by today. So lots of people in Oregon here are delivering theirs in person (they have drop boxes at various places such as libraries). I don’t know about other states.

I’ve seen projects of 85 to 90% turnout in Oregon. As of the day before the election, it was already up to 60%. That’s better than many states will get in total.
