Absinth

Comments on the “Was the legendary liqueur absinthe hallucinogenic?” column on 26-Oct-2001

I don't usually drink-maybe once in a while I will have a cocktail when we go out to eat, but that's about it. After a few sips, I can feel it, and I don't really much care for that feeling. I saw an ad in a European magazine for Absinth, and thought I would get some to see what all the fuss was. I have "been into" the stuff about 3 times, as the taste is strong black licorice. I did 2 shots mixed with regular lemon-lime soda, and could not feel the alcohol at all. I did, however, feel 'something else' much like the one time I tried pot. I just laughed and laughed and laughed. I certainly did not hallucinate. Wanna give it a try? The 50cl bottle available at this website:

will run Americans about 80 bucks with shipping, customs, etc. It’s good for a laugh!

mikeandla, I have edited your post to remove the link. The site you linked to claimed to ship thujone-containing absinthe almost anywhere in the world, which I presume includes the U.S. Wormwood and its active ingredient thujone are illegal in the United States. We do not permit links to organizations that help people break the law.

A link to the column is appreciated. It is http://www.straightdope.com/columns/011026.html

Since this is a comment on one of Cecil’s columns, and not a Staff Report, I’ll move this thread to the appropriate forum.
