Absinthe question, take 2.

Ok, I will be buying my own bottle some time next week.

What I want to know is what any of our Euro-dopers or bohemian dopers may have got out of Absinthe.

I do not want to know where or how you got it.
I do not want to know how to make my own.

I just want to know your experiences.

Mods, if this one is a problem, please kill it with my apologies.

The only thing I know about it is that Gary Hart claimed he had been drinking it before he was spotted with his young blond political aide. Well, you know what they say, “Absinthe makes the Hart grow fonder.”

Sorry about that. I’ve had that pun in my head for years and never had the chance to use it. I had to jump on this thread. Sorry.

Great, more people drinking the original twinkie defense.

There actually exisits an Absinthe Buyer’s Guide: http://www.absinthebuyersguide.com

I don’t know anymore about it.

Please be careful.

Isn’t Chartreuse kinda like Absinthe?

My most positive experience was like being drunk and having taken a few hits off a bown after one shot of the stuff. My less positive experiences were just states of drunkenness (made my own and I don’t think I put enough [omitted for sake of OP’s desire]).

How interesting! I had no idea that this product was still being made…

Is it legal in Canada?

Bowl, not bown. Err, no, I’m not drinking absinth right now, why do you ask?

A couple of months ago there was a piece in the NY Times about absinthe, it sounded like the physical effects were the same as drinking regular alchohol, but of course there’s the whole “mystique.” I suppose you could go to their web site and search for “absinthe.”

Apparantly so. I just bought a bottle in Alberta. I’ve started a thread in GQ.

That, and the wormwood, of course.

I can attest that, if you get the eastern European stuff, the physical effects are not just due to the alcohol content.
