Alright everybody, I think I see a cell phone in my future. What are your nominations for Best Service Plan, Best supporting handset, and Best Special Effects (how the minutes are charged- I know some companies charge in increments of 10 seconds, while others round you up to the next whole minute, the bastards). Also, I know that some plans don’t charge you for the first minute of incoming calls; allowing you to hang up & find a regular pay phone if you know it’s going to be a long call.
I will require handset delivery in less than five days, must be able to call from anywhere in the lower 48, especially in the middle of some God-forsaken, scorpion-intensive desert in Utah. The number should be 202, so my home calling area will be DC. I’m not that worried about a huge number of minutes per month- it’s strictly for emergencies, not chit-chat (I rarely even use my home phone more than once a week.
Money is somewhat of an object, but since I’m not after more than a couple hundred minutes per month, I don’t think the plans will go much above $40 anyway.
I have in front of me an offer for a $50 Uniden 2000A that comes with 200 minutes per month- and you don’t lose the unused minutes; they roll over into the next month- & free accessories. On the surface this seems like a good deal, and I would have gone for it already but I thought I’d ask around a little to see if there wasn’t anything significantly better.
