Accidental Hero

Last night I borrowed the video ‘Dick’ - a pretty funny film about two teenage girls who get mixed up with the Watergate controversy. It reminded me of another movie I was told about in which someone kept accidentally getting involved in world-changing events, without really knowing what was going on. It might have been Charlie Chaplan, or someone like that. Does anyone know of any movies (or books, plays, etc) that fit this description? I’m not even sure there’s only one that I’m after.

Forrest Gump

Pick one.

I’ll add Being There.

Forrest Gump is probably the movie in question, but I’ll also add The Man Who Knew Too Little.

Gotta go with Bricker. Being There, with Peter Sellers, seems most likely to be what you’re thinking of.

Beavis and Butthead Do America

Since you mentioned Charlie Chaplin, The Great Dictator comes to mind as well.

Spies Like Us

I think ‘Gump’ would be the most likely… ‘Being There’ doesn’t get into any ‘real’ events, whereas ‘Gump’ does…

I still love ‘Being There’, though…
