She is released.
Yes. And at the time I was honestly concerned about it.
Praise the Lord!!
Been several hours already, have Huckleberry and Cruz taken credit for this glorious victory yet?
They knew Obama would knuckle under eventually and release her once he found out they were onto his War on Christianity!
This is, of course, a major defeat for them. Now they don’t get to grandstand on the jailhouse steps and do photo ops through the bars.
She got her George Wallace stand in the school house door moment. So long as she doesn’t try to stop her deputies from doing their job going forward, this is over as far as we all should be concerned. I don’t personally care if a few of those guys don’t issue licenses so long as there is always someone on duty who will.
Oops. Her lawyers claim that she will try to stop the licenses when she gets back to work. I wonder how that will play out. Will some of the deputies have the courage to defy her?
It would not surprise me if she went right back and tried to stop SSM licenses again. Some people get their sense of self-worth out of martyrdom.
Is it still martyrdom when you jump out in front of the guns and yell “Shoot me, dammit! Shoot me!”?
Her deputies were ordered by the judge to issue the licenses, and IIRC all but one agreed to do so. If they change their minds and obey Davis’s unlawful orders to stop issuing them, then I imagine they would be in contempt and jailed by the judge.
At least she isn’t exploiting her overpowering sexual magnetism.
doesn’t matter fi they defy - she was ordered not to interfere - so even attempting to interfere should put her back in jail.
In a county that has a whopping 23,000 people, just how many SSM licenses would you expect per year?
They stopped ALL licenses - and tehre were atleast 4 or 5 issued in eh past couple days.
I’m guessing that there’s a gay couple (or even gay-friendly straight friends) who haven’t yet gotten a license that will try in the coming days. Having the license doesn’t compel one to get married, after all.
Sure. I just think that once the initial backlog, so to speak, gets thru, that there probably won’t be more than 1 or 2 SSM license requests in a given year.
again - she stopped ALL licenses - not just to SS couples.
So what? I’m just pointing out that, under normal conditions, this whole issue is likely to be a once or twice yearly event. It quite possibly could be months before it’s an issue again.
If we assume that Rowan county is statistically identical to the nationwide mean and about 4% of its population is LBGT, then there would be about 930 such people living in the county, so if every single one of them were to pair off and want to get gay-married, that would be a maximum of 465 licenses.
