"Across the Universe" looks gayer than eight dudes blowing nine dudes.

Yes your opening was funny.

Well, considering the fact that all I’ve seen is the previews, this is what I think of the film, having not seen it. I never claimed that they were identical, but the way they are being marketed isn’t vastly different. I never said anything about movie musicals being all the same; if that were true, I wouldn’t be looking forward to the release of Tim Burton’s rendition of Sweeney Todd. I’m just saying that the similarities that I have seen in the advertising combined with the “OMG, it’s got songs by the Beatles!” aspect of it is not likely to draw me into viewing it.

What I heard most recently is that the studio and Taymor compromised on a “middle-ground” cut that they all liked. As long as she is content, I’m sure I will be too. There was a lot of talk and gossip before about her being difficult to work with, and turning in an extra-long cut that studio heads and critics hated, so I wonder if we’ll ever see her original version on DVD.

Hopefully the movie will do well and Taymor can move on to her next rumored project: a Spider-Man musical on Broadway, with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, two avowed comic book fanboys themselves.

I already have the soundtrack on me iPod.

Me, I’m gonna refrain from judging the whole movie based on the trailer, a tool designed to market the film to–probably–boomers. Julie Taymor is not without her weaknesses, but she’s always interesting.

I’m a huge Beatles fan, but this was my first reaction, as well. Won’t go out of my way to see it.

Do you all think this film will be just as good as “Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”? After all, they’re both films that use Beatle’s songs to advance the plot.
