ACTA (Proposed anti-counterfeiting treaty)

I wasn’t sure if this should be in the Pit or here, I figure more people look here and I also wanted opinions on it. How many people are for the ACTA deal. Basically internet piracy will become a felony, IP providers will be held responsible, the providers will monitor all the data that goes in and out of your computer.

Random search of your laptops and other items that hold digital data may will be legal without any reason of suspician, they can copy your entire hard drive to search.

If you are ACCUSED 3 times by a copyright holder being sent to jail without a trial is the punishment.

Don’t worry I’m not a troll or some radical political rebel. Even those against privacy may think this is just plain wrong, like I do. Feel free to look it up if you don’t believe any of this, give me some opinions.

According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation the OP is exaggerating only slightly. I note this from their page about the proposed treaty’s most troubling provisions:

Although I don’t see anything about jail for three-time suspects in the current draft version, it’s still scary stuff just going by what the EFF and numerous other advocacy groups seem to be saying.

Moving to GD.

This will of course be watered down come final draft, and the opposition will think they’ve walked away the winners. ISTM to be a sneaky way of sending harsh U.S. copyright law to countries with harsher methods of enforcement.

How many claims on the EFF site are correct according to the actual document?
