Ok Dopers. I am not sure if this has been done yet but I am still going to ask a few questions:
-
How many actors do we have out there? Union, Non-Union, SAG, AFTRA, etc, etc. and where do you reside?
-
What are the favorite characters/roles that you HAVE played and what are your dream roles.
My 2 cents:
I am a Non-Union actor in Chicago. I have helped run a theater company for many years and lately have just been acting. My favorite roles are Hamlet in Hamlet, Mickey in Hurly Burly, Ralph Follett in All the Way Home and Fortinbras in Fortinbras. Dream roles are Street Car-Stanley, Lonesome West-Valene or Coleman and Buried Child-Vince or Tilden.
Your turn…
Non-union, Seattle; BFA in Acting.
I’ve got a lot of past favorites, but tops would probably be La Fleche in The Miser and Touchstone in As You Like It. I get cast a lot in drama, probably because my “neutral” expression is pretty intense; I’ve also got a facility with dialects. I did a pretty good Douglas in 1 Henry IV, for example. Comedy, though, is much more enjoyable all around. I’m currently playing The General in Dark Ride and knocking my castmates dead; we open Friday.
I don’t really have any dream roles. For me, it’s mostly about the overall show, who’s doing it, what the take on the show is, and how I can contribute. I played a tiny role a year and a half ago in a show at the same theater where I’m working now, because it gave me the opportunity to choreograph the show’s fights.
That said, I’d love to play Laertes some time.
