This tweaked my curiosity because I had seen their names (Ryan and Kyle Pepi) in the opening credits. They have a page on Wikipedia. They’re listed as playing Billy on the X-Files Wiki.
Here’s where it really gets strange, though: Ryan Pepi has no IMDb listing at all that I can find. Kyle Pepi is listed as the birth name of Alycia Stark, who is listed as being Alycia Stark’s twin brother, mother of Kyle and Ryan Pepi, son of Scott Pepi and Alycia Stark, stepson of Peri Pepi, and grandson of Zadie.
I believe that “Alycia Pepi” is indeed the mother of Ryan and Kyle Pepi. She is also about 40. The DOB on IMDB is that of the twin boys. The biographical trivia info is all messed up.
That’s not all that unusual. Up until a few years ago, IMDB did not allow one-off guest appearances in TV programs. Also, they only showed a combined cast list of regulars and semi-regulars–none for individual episodes. They changed that policy so that now each episode has a complete cast list for the regulars.
Yeah, but, again, IMDB, unlike a lot of other websites who maintain cast and production credits, would not have allowed that credit as it was a one-off guest appearance. Back in those days, to be eligible to have an actor’s name added to the database, you pretty much had to have one of three qualifications:
a) you were credited in a non-series title (movie/tv special/documentary)
b) you were a main cast (listed in opening credits) of a tv series
c) you were someone who was so really well known that you were granted an exception
See my beginning note. That info is really bad. They should have their names added, and have the trivia corrected. Are you sure that the twins received an onscreen credit?
Yep, and it was in the front credits. And if you follow the link to Wikipedia from my OP, you’ll see that they’ve been in lots of other stuff (to the extent that we can trust Wikipedia, of course). They simply don’t have entries in the IMDb database.
I did finally figure out how to jump through the various hoops of IMDb’s “correct something on this page” form to report that they have a major error.
As someone who uses the IMDb a lot, thanks for taking the time to correct erronious information. That sure does make for a more pleasant, and accurate, experience.
To further complicate things, their wiki indicates they played “Jackie Dunphy” in some movie I can’t remember. But that movie lists “Tommy Bone” as the actor, and that’s his only credit. Possibly a made-up name for the twins. Possibly the wiki is incorrect. Possibly they play “Jackie Dunphy” at a different age. (Check out the last history update, when you get a chance.) I’ve never seen the movie or the ep of “X-Files” to know if they were the same person.
As BigT mentioned, IMDB accepts user-submitted content. While I believe they make a good effort to verify information, things slip past. I’ve seen false info posted under the “trivia” section for a show I once worked on.
Good luck. IMDb has combined credits for two people, one of whom was a personal acquaintance of mine and is a good 15 years older than the more famous actress with which she shares her name. I’ve tried multiple times to correct it, complete with substantiating links, and nothing was ever done. I finally realized it wasn’t that important, as the person I knew is no longer doing film work, but I keep it in mind whenever I use IMDb as an information source.
alright so this is legit, im ryan pepi and i am mentioned in xfiles opening credits but not in the ending. i played dunphy when i was around 3 years old in outside providence. Alycia stark is my moms new name (she got remarried) her maiden name is gaskill and she had the name pepi with my dad. zadie is my moms dad…
we played the young version of dunphy in the beginning scene and xmas scene of outside providence so that explains it.
Since this thread got resurrected, I’ll take the opportunity before it gets locked down to acknowledge that the problem I referred to in post 10 was eventually corrected, thanks to Snake-Hips.
Yeah, but according to the last post in that thread, Dourif’s explanation was BS. (I don’t know which one is correct. I haven’t read the book in a long, long, time and don’t intend to do so again.)
I’ve never ruled out the possibility that Dourif’s ego led to some selective memory. What I specifically thought was cool was that I had posted a thread to the SDMB which no one was interested in providing a good answer for and wound up getting the (okay, an) answer straight from the horse’s mouth.
