Some actors will never play likeable characters. While they might look good, they have a face that just marks them as evil, through and through. They seem to tend to land roles that reflect that. For example…
Ray Wise. He just looks like corporate greed. How he ever got elected to VPotUS is beyond me.
Elaine Hendrix. I’m sure she’s a nice girl, and probably has healthy relationships. And she’s very pretty. But damn if I don’t have nightmares about her castrating me and emptying my bank account.
Mike Starr. Let’s see, he could play a Mafia hit man, and… uh…
I always thought ingenue referenced a naive, virtuous young woman. It would be hard to imagine any male playing an ingenue.
As far as likeable characters, though, Ray Liotta is a tough one. He looks like he wants to be nice, but can’t stop thinking of boning you up the dung funnel.
Traditionally, a male ingenue has been referred to as a juvenile. (See definition #5. Although it includes both sexes, in all the all stagestruck musicals of the thirties, I’ve only ever heard it used to refer to the young male lead.)
Oh, man. I’m surfing the boards because I don’t want to go to bed just yet and it’s like 2:34am here and I live in an apatment and I’m trying to be quiet and then I read THAT. Now I am giggling really hard and really loud.
