Hey, Whoopi was good in The Color Purple. And in that other film…no, not that one…um…
I would!
Denzel’s win was more of a career nod but voted for a solid role in a lesser movie-- much the way Pacino won for Scent Of A Woman instead of the Godfather movies.
I agree about Cheadle’s talent and range. I mentioned the great head.
BrandyFine, I will forever have a soft spot for Kevin Kline, thanks to his role as the Pirate King.
Andy McDowell is not only a horrible actress, she’s also my town’s resident movie star. Gossip in artsy circles is that she can’t do live theater to save her soul. During one benefit show a couple of years ago, she stopped during a live performance, turned to the other actor on stage and said “I can’t remember my lines.” Oy vey.
I would believe that you are Tom Arnold IRL, except I don’t think he could spell “algorithm.”
I realize that the OP said no TV actors but since I have to keep seeing ads for his new movie, I get to mention him. It’s the law of karmic balance or something.
I’m surprised to see Kevin Kline mentioned. He’s put together a pretty impressive career playing a lot of different parts. He excels at both drama and comedy, IMO.
Heck, Kevin Kline surprised me with his performance in The Pirates of Penzance. Mind you, I was bored with the movie, but his performance caught my eye.
Like I said, I think people are being way too harsh on way too many actors in this thread.
Laura Dern.
Her idea of acting is to take her face and contort it like somebody twisting a Play-Doh model. Boo hoo! Oh boo hoo! Quick, more glycerin tears!
Michael Douglas. Whatevr made this doofus think he could play an Alpha male?
Eddie Murphy. Wealth apparently disabled the section of his brain that recognizes when something is actually funny.
Well, burundi and others who replied to me, I guess it just goes to show that people can see the same things and have very different assessments of them. There are probably a dozen or more people I’ve seen listed that I’m saying “What the! How is it even possible that he/she made this list when he/she is so talented?!” While my choices spurred that reaction in others heh. Glad to hear my idol Hepburn said the same thing about one of them though!
Regarding Spacey, up until I saw K-Pax - esp. for the second time - I saw him as extremely talented too. Then I saw it again and I wondered how I could have missed it, the sameness, the blandness. I think it’s because the movies themselves are often so good, and the characters he plays are interesting characters, that his lack of dramatic range gets lost in the enjoyment of the story. However I did not put him on the list because he has a hell of a comedic talent. I wish he’d pursue that more.
Jerry O’Connell.
