Ad-aware and cookies

Hey all.

I run ad-aware every few days. and it seems like I keep getting the same damn thing. One cookie marked from atdmt. It’s a minor hassle, but it’s got me intrigued. Is there any way to figure out what website I’m going to that’s giving me this cookie? (It’s not www.atdmt.com. I’m at least that smart.)

Just curious.

You are probably referring to atdmt.net It ‘s another wannabe search page with a need to know where you’ve been and how long you were there.
There is also a atdmt.com. At(las)dmt, a marketing (data miner) tool. Delete their cookies.

Perhaps I should re-phrase the question. I know to delete the cookie, and I know the company that makes it. What I want to know is, as it continues to turn up, I’m wondering if there’s a way to tell what website I’m getting said cookie from? Just my curiousity.

I use Cookie Pal to control cookies. When a site tries to set a cookie it will pop up and ask you what you want to do with it.

Often, they come from multiple websites. Someone pays hundreds of websites to put up their banners; if you go to any of those sites, you get a cookie.

I don’t concern myself too much about tracking cookies; they are rarely a serious issue. It’s the spyware that installs running processes or BHOs on your system that are the nasty ones.

You can stop the worse of them by downloading Spyware Blaster.

You’re probably getting 3rd party cookies from a site you visit. I think you can set your browser to only accept cookies from the original site. You can also add them to the ignore list in cookie control in IE.

I think this is the correct forum for this question.

In a little while, my new husband and I will combine our separate homes into one. This is made more fun by the fact that we have almost completely divergent tastes in furniture. His is generally modern, with a few large pieces purchased from IKEA. Nothing against that, I like the stuff. Mine tends to be more of the overstuffed couches and darker woods and is a bit more consistent with the house.

Here is my question: has anyone ever tried to alter the color of IKEA furniture? He has a dining room set that is the lighter (birch?) color and I was thinking about somehow coloring or staining it to a slightly darker shade so it doesn’t stand out as much against the rest of the home. He doesn’t mind. My concern is that it may not be wood, so staining could be a problem or that it would turn out crappy looking. I can make or get chair covers, so that is fairly easy to solve.

Thoughts? Suggestions? War stories? Thanks in advance!

Oh no, I’m so sorry for the above. Obviously I meant to start a new thread.

Would a moderator kindly delete the above? Thank you.

In your browser. top left,

Click on “tools”

Click on “internet options”

Click on “privacy”

Click on “advanced”

Click on “override automatic cookie handling”

Click on First Party Cookies “prompt”

Click on Third Party Cookies “prompt”

Click on “OK”

Now, every time a site tries to place a cookie on your computer, a screen will appear telling you WHO is trying to place the cookie, and gives you the option of accepting or blocking the cookie. As you surf, you will find out who is placing the perticular cookie in question.

Totally awesome! Thanks for putting all the instructions to the left so I could move the options screen to the right. I also use ad-aware, and was curious about Data Miner, now I have an idea. I got a can of whoop-ass for data miner.

Cool handle, Fritz.
