His opponent is Patrick Murphy, who I was initially high on until the Miami Herald did a little digging and found that he basically made up his resume. he was touting his business background and it turned out his “business” was just something his daddy set up for him which doesn’t actually do any business.
Silly me! John McCain! The greatest President we never had.
Yeah, and I imagine not that many Americans can name foreign leaders who are our allies. Our adversaries make headlines.
That’s no excuse for Johnson, but it does put his ignorance in perspective. It’s more “normal American disinterest in boring countries” ignorance than “shockingly stupid” ignorance.
Yeah, but that is not a reason to be for Rubio.
Rubio has potential. I’ve given up hope that he’ll be anything other than a typical politician, but given time he can become a very good one in the mold of Bob Dole.
Poor Adaher. You’re going to be so disappointed on Nov. 9th.
I don’t think so. Rubio has Florida pretty much sewn up, which is really a shame as he has not done one iota of work to deserve it. He coasted through on name recognition alone.
Rubio was a do-nothing before; he’ll be a do-nothing senator again, and Floridians, for the most part, won’t care.
Rubio, like Jindal, has always used his current position as a stepping stone to the next one. Rubio wants to be President, and he figures his best chance is from the Senate.
True, but the Democratic bench in Florida is VERY weak despite Florida’s status as a swing state. It’s Republican simply because there’s a shortage of good Democrats. There’s a reason the Democrats thought their best hope in TWO statewide races was to back a former Republican, Charlie Crist.
To be fair, Matthews opened it up to include any foreign leader. At all. Then Johnson came up with “The former president of Mexico?” He could not name that person, though Weld came through with a save.
I expect politicians to be flexible and evolving in their convictions, but it’s better to have some policy than no policy. Johnson isn’t giving us much to work with. It’s basically “gold standard vaccinations what’s Aleppo ma-na-ma-nah”.
What’s interesting though is that the Libertarian candidate is more willing to compromise on taxes to get a good budget deal than the Republicans. That just shows how far off the bend they’ve gone.
Every office, at every level of government, federal, state, or municipal - the Democratic candidate.
The Republican party is a terrorist organization which is unfit to govern at any level, and none of the third parties present a viable alternative.
Actually, at the state level, Republicans are doing quite well(with some exceptions, hard for there not to be when they control so many. HAH!) and there are many genuinely good Republican Senators and Congressmen that are worth supporting. The Democrats nominated some good people this cycle, but also some real pieces of work(Murphy) and a few brainless wonders(McGinty in PA).
The fact that they choose to continue to be affiliated with the Republican party is disqualifying in and of itself. If they had any conscience, decency, or interest in responsible government, they would part ways with that hive of un-American degenerates and form a new party that’s actually willing to do the job it’s been elected to do.
There was a time when that would have been a valid statement. But today, being a member of that party defines and tightly circumscribes their conduct in office. They have to vote the way they’re told, and what they’re told is defined by the yahoos. To get the yahoos out of power, you do have to vote against *all *of them, including their hostages.
It isn’t up to the Democrats to restore the Republican Party’s mental health. It is up to Democrats only to contain the epidemic. That is done at the ballot box.
Much like SCOTUS appointments as a rationale to vote for Trump, you and Smapti are just rationalizing. Parties matter less than good people. Want to know how to reform the Republican party? Get rid of the bad apples and reelect the good ones, as well as bring in new blood that is promising.
No “good person” would willingly associate themselves with the Republican Party. There is nothing good or noble within that organization that is worth saving - nothing but hatred, and bigotry, and reactionism, and craven self-interest. There is nothing that would benefit our society from its continued existence, and there it is nothing it has to offer but further obstructionism and the spectre of global nuclear annihilation.
Unlike the Democratic Party, the Republican Party actually has a reformist element. The Democrats have transformed into a party that embraces politics as usual. Ends always justify means now. The Constitution doesn’t matter, laws passed just recently don’t matter, public opinion doesn’t matter, truth doesn’t matter. Just get things done, and do it quickly! Midterms are always right around the corner.
Prime RNC talking points! Well done. Mr. Priebus sends you his thanks.
That’s Democratic talking points. They now defend pork barrel spending, corporate welfare, loose lipped allies support lying to the public(and so does Clinton in front of private audiences), and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Congress or administration run headlong into the Supreme court so much, at least not since FDR. Heck, even Obama, who can’t resist being candid from time to time, encouraged Democrats running for Congress to “say what they have to say” about him, but of course we all know they are really his allies.
we’ve had these debates before, so no need to make another thread out of it, but Smapti needs to know why I will continue to support good Republicans. Sure, taken as a whole the Democrats are the better party right now. The Republicans have become completely dysfunctional and there are some parts of the coalition that are pretty damn dark these days. But the answer to that isn’t to encourage the Democrats own bad behavior by electing them unconditionally.
I don’t follow. The Party Of Trump cannot lay any claim to being reformist, unless you count complete destruction as a step in rebuilding. Now do ends justify means for Democrats? What part of the Constitution do they ignore? What recently passed laws don’t matter? When specifically did truth not matter?
