If the SDMB or any site offers to take responsibility for malware served by advertisements on their site, I’m happy view their advertisements. $200 per incident sounds reasonable.
3 malware infections
$150/hr for 3 hours.
SD owes me $1350
Oh as for “complain to the manager”, SD doesn’t give a f@&k about the malware that they are the conduit for.
Worth it at twice the cost! Hell, I’d pay to disregard coremelt. ![]()
So I installed Ublock Origin from the Chrome Store on my Toshiba laptop running Vista. Works great, though now Salon doesn’t load any pictures on its home page except the leader. No big loss.
I’d like to put it on my tablet, which runs Android Lollipop 5.1, but can’t figure out how. Ublock Origin’s site has extensive instructions for loading on different systems but they don’t seem to be relevant to Android touch screen devices. Any advice?
Just read through this and Thank You for making me aware of it. I’ve swapped over and will be doing the same with my home computers…
According to voltaire, there’s a plugin for Firefox on Android.
If those “many many good websites” keep infecting peoples’ computers with malware, then fuck 'em. My last computer was destroyed by adware. Until they stop that kind of shit, I’ll continue to be a leech.
And people have been complaining about the ads here for years. It hasn’t done any good. Besides, new people who come to the site most likely won’t want to stick around – who’s gonna want to pay before checking this place for a bit? I don’t even link to this place anymore, because I don’t want to risk infecting peoples’ computers.
Costing THEM money? If they’re going to infect my computer, they don’t deserve my money.
Personally, I don’t mind seeing a few TASTEFUL, SAFE ads, so I’m not going to replace AdBlock quite yet. I’ll give it a chance. I run noscript too and try to be careful.
HOWEVER, I think it was a crappy decision on their part. It seems shortsighted and I would think one thing you wouldn’t want to do is alienate your userbase.
So far in my experience it’s been the worst of the worst that AdBlock is now letting through. The fake scammers saying your computer is infected and you have to click their ad to clean it, porn, and loud pop-under ads that I have to switch windows to make stop.
I’ll be dropping ABP and switching ASAP.
Enjoy,
Steven
If you have Mozilla Firefox for Android, you can get the extension to work on the tablet device. At least, that’s what the Firefox extensions page for android says for uBlock Origin…I don’t have Android (both phone (if it works?) and tablet), I’ve only had a Microsoft Windows laptop and a iPhone 6s. And a flip phone.
