Add pot legalization to the compromise bill.

Well that speaks volumes doesn’t it?

Yah well whatever is at the top of your list you can go ahead and shove right up your ass, if you ask our representatives in this 3-branch democratic party dominated government.

The bottom of the list? Yeah, that too.

Well, more important to me are things like: The economy, unemployment, immigration reform, health care reform, gay rights, and freedom of/from religion.

You think adding a brand new lucrative agricultural sector overnight won’t help the economy or employment?

Is that sarcasm or agreement? Or both?

Maybe, maybe not.

I’m not necessarily against the idea of legalization. I just don’t think it’s very important.

My feeling is that Congress is telling you you can shove all those things (not my personal message to you, if it isn’t clear). Economy? Not too well-served by this deal that I can tell, though I admit there are at least some positives included. Unemployment? Prevented from getting worse I suppose, but at a high cost. Immigration reform? We’re seeing some in this country, but it appears Republican style- not sure what you want to see on this issue. Health care reform? That turned into a compromise too, but at least a compromise in the direction of what people voted Obama into office to do (based on, you know, things he said during the campaign). Gay rights? Gays seem pretty free to me, outside of the military and wedding chapels I suppose. The bigotry makes me want to puke sometimes, but I don’t think that part can be outlawed.

Freedom of/from religion? We’re mostly there on this issue too. But where are the bible-beaters now? Why aren’t the evangelicals falling all over themselves to denounce tax cuts for the rich when we have such pressing problems? Because they are full of shit, that’s why, and always have been. They tend toward political organization and not a religious group at all. For guess what? Tax purposes.

So how about legalizing marijuana? We are definitely ‘not there yet’ on this issue. The issue enjoys broad if not majority support- a helluva lot more than 2%, or even the pubbie Senate minority. It would ostensibly create jobs and tax revenue. It would ease the impression that somehow your goddamn mom is making the rules in this country. And while it would be widely recognized as a bone for the liberals, it is one issue on which both sides mostly agree.

It may not be the top priority, I agree, but I think it would be good politics. The people who would be especially pissed about it are already getting their way, and so the whole endeavor comes off as more of a genuine compromise rather than a caving to those mean ol’ pubbies.

Do it for the liberals.

Both. The dems are making huge concessions to get a bill passed, and seem to be getting little in return. Yah, if we make even more ridiculous concessions than maybe something popular and actually helpful like marijuana legalization might get passed by Congress. But the compromise is already ridiculous, and liberals so far do not get even this much!

I’d love to buy something from the Democratic party. I think I could get them to pay me for it.
