The Addams Family-by far. Nobody could imitate John Astin’s crazed looking eyes-and his 1930’s style double breasted sits-he even had a lapel watch. Plus, the characters were better developed-and they were totally unconscious of how weird they were…and example:
(Gomez to Granny): :Granny-the neighbors just called-they said they saw a witch on the roof"
(Granny): “I was just up there-I didn’t see any witch”!
Eh. The being totally unconscious of their weirdness is central to both shows. It is also an important element of a boatload of other tv comedies from over the years. The Beverly Hillbillies and The Tick, though separated by decades, both relied on the trope.
