Adderall for depression?

I have longstanding TRD, and I haven’t been on Adderall but have been on Ritalin and Dexedrine in the past, neither of which affected the depression. (The Dexedrine did lead to the fracture of one of my bicuspids. I never want to grind my teeth that hard again .) I spent years on Provigil/Nuvigil, and while that increased my energy considerably, it did nothing for the depression. I’ll be interested to hear how the Adderall works for you since I’m starting with a new doctor (and most likely new drugs) this month.

Have you found the BuSpar to be helpful? It might be contributing to your fatigue, so if it isn’t terribly helpful you might ask your doctor about discontinuing it to see if that helps.

I have tried discontinuing the Buspar, and I inevitably become extremely agitated, irritated with everyone, and impatient with EVERYTHING.

I do take it but not for depression. The doctor will have to play around with your dosage for awhile to get it right. It also matters what you have eaten with the XR. An empty stomach doesn’t work for me so I choke down a toasted frozen waffle when I take mine. If you take it and go immediately back to bed until it kicks-in make sure you drink enough water and stay upright long enough so it doesn’t stick in your craw so to speak. I’ve also heard to avoid acidic things as it weakens the dosage. Unfortunately, coffee is acidic. :frowning: But ask your doc as this could be completely wrong.

I think not doing it that way actually makes it harder to get out of bed. I think it crashes or something. I was never more tired in the morning than when I was taking Adderall.

Also, a side benefit: 50% of overweight users lose a significant amount of weight. I think I was my correct weight for the first time in my life on Adderall. And, since my sports ability increased, I played outside more. And exercise is very useful for depression.

So… I tried setting my alarm for 9 and taking it. Then I went back to sleep for 4 hours?!

Update: My current prescription of 10mg was only written for 14 days. When it’s time for a new script, he is increasing the dosage to 20mg.

I am SO tired of playing with medications. I am 31 and have been dealing with this since I was 16. Enough, already.
