Is there any reason (chemical, medical, or culinary) I shouldn’t add crushed caffeine tablets to my drinks?
Don’t put more than 10 grams in. Stuffs bitter as hell, though.
Coffee tastes better. That’s the culinary reason.
Not sure I see the advantage of adding it to a drink instead of swallowing the tablet - do you make it up ahead of time and then spread out consumption? But that’s your business, not mine…
Anyway, trying to add it to a carbonated drink will cause it to foam. Maybe not like Mentos & Diet Coke, but you get the picture. Other than that, I got nuthin’.
I just got a SodaStream as a gift. I was thinking of making some of my own concoctions.
Ah. I get it.
Maybe you can powderize the caffeine with a coffee grinder and then boil the powder, extracting the caffeine into the water. Filter out the pill filler and the remaining water will be highly caffeinated. You could add that to your formula.
Just be choosey on what kind of pills you use. Some, like No Doze, add a mint flavoring that may skew your final product.
I’d swear I used to see places selling liquid caffeine for this exact purpose, but Bingoogling isn’t helping me today.
I found it in powderedform. Oh, Amazon … what don’t you sell?
You can still get a sodastream???
It’s addictive, but if you were going to take them anyway, have at it.
“Water enhancer” liquids, some of them containing caffeine (like this one, for example) are readily available. They’re meant to be added to “regular” water, but I imagine you could use them with a SodaStream.
