Adding extra monitors to a pc running Vista.

On XP, if you want to add an additional monitor, you right-click Desktop, click on Properties, click on Settings and “Voila!”, “Do you want to extend your screen to this monitor, blah, blah, blah…” - “Why, yes, I do”!" Click, click, Bob’s your uncle.

Where is the equivalent function on Vista, guise?

too short;need more — I’m trying to hook up my tv to this new Vista-running pc, and it’s not having it. Halp, pleez.

From Vista Help & Support:

Add a second monitor

To add a second monitor to your computer, you’ll need to make sure that you either have a video card that supports multiple monitors, or that your computer has more than one video card. The easiest way to determine if your video card supports multiple monitors is to look at the back of your computer and see if your card has two video ports for connecting your monitors.

VGA and DVI ports

Once you have made sure that your video card can support a second monitor, follow these steps to add the additional monitor:

Turn off your computer and monitor.

Locate the video ports on your computer. (See illustration.)

Connect the second monitor to the unused video port.

Plug the second monitor into an electrical power source and turn it on.

Turn on your original monitor.

Turn on your computer.

Windows should recognize the monitor once the computer has started. If you are prompted to install driver software, see the instructions that came with the monitor.

Notes
You can also check your video card manufacturer’s website to determine if the card supports multiple monitors. If you don’t know the make and model of your video card, see “How do I find out what kind of video card my computer has?” in Video cards: frequently asked questions.

Some video cards might include a special cable that splits a single connector into two. If your card supports such a splitter, it should have been included with your computer.

He’s right, you know! Just make sure you have your cable connected to the right vga slot - why they have two blue slots at the back of my pc, I don’t know? - if you want to avoid moments of headscratching.

If the two blue slots are next to each other then you can do a multiple monitor display, if one is in an expansion slot and one is in the I/O panel with all the other ports then you can’t.

You can use a Y-cable with any video output but it will only support a cloned display, not a desktop extension.
