Damn this crap is tight. I just got cable internet tonight. 19.99 a month for 6 months and free install and equipment. It onl took them 5 days to get out to install it. They told me to expect about 1.5 Mbps download speed but I have been hovering around 3Mbps all day.
I just hope you don’t have any technical support issues.
< knows from experience when calling for some stuff on my dad’s Adelphia, your speed sounds great until you end up on hold for 2 1/2 hours waiting to get a simple question answered and it also takes up to 3 days for an email support to be replied too with the wrong answer >
Well, it sure beats the hell out of dial-up but, like techchik said, their tech support SUCKS. At any given time you’ll have to wait 1-3 hours just to talk to someone and then they usually have no idea what they’re talking about, and you can just forget about emailing them, because they WON’T respond. And just wait until it starts going down 4 or 5 times a week for several hours at a time. Like I said, it beats dial-up with a wet noodle but it sure isn’t a god send.
Oh yea and:
You got reeeally lucky, it took them 11 weeks to get out here, and then it was down almost the whole first week. Needless to say I haven’t had very good experience with Adelphia, but they’re my only alternative to dialing up to aol, which I’m not going to do.
My dad has it for $19.xx a month plus a rental fee for the modem. He has most all the channels you can get except for the adult channels.
Heck, I got my DSL router, I own it and can eBay it when I switch to a new router where I have a static IP and have faster service. I may not have the speeds of cable users but I will be hosting a server and with the Adelphia locally I can’t do that.
But I have never waited more than 8 minutes with my DSL issues only to find out a week later that it was my damn mother board crapping out on me.
3Mbps? Wow. Most of the blood-sucking leeches, er, cable companies around here cap you off at 1.5.
What I find really interesting is that one of the big pushes for the usually more expensive DSL was that there was no cap, but I discovered that our local phone company is also capping all residential DSP plans at 1.5, it takes the business professional plan at $180 a month to go up to 6.
