Adjacent words in crossword puzzles

In a crossword puzzle I did yesterday, the upper left corner contained:

M U L E
A M I D
C A V I A R

I’m not sure why, but this odd combination of words just jumped out at me, like it should be an old adage (“Ah, don’t listen to him; he’s just a mule amid caviar.”) or a band name or something.

Puzzlemakers surely do this on purpose from time to time (though probably not this one!) and other times interesting combinations just happen.

Do you notice stuff like this, and have you seen any lately?
