adobe photoshop 4 and xp, error message.

i am using adobe photoshop 4.0 and just installed xp. when i try to use adobe i get a fatal error 36. it has something to do with memory peoblems. i have 512mb of ram.

any suggestions. i can not find a patch for this problem.

When I installed XP awhile back, I found all kinds of errors in many programs. They all amounted to this: they weren’t compatible with XP. A quick look at the Adobe website re: XP, it seems that they are up to Photoshop 7. I would guess that Photoshop 4 isn’t compatible with XPs wonderful sense of humor. From the above link:

My un-educated guess is compatibility, and that you need to upgrade your photoshop.

Have you tried running it in one of XP’s “Compatibility” modes? You can right-click and chose properties on the shortcut for Photoshop and chose to run the program in a mode supposedly compatible with previous versions of Windows. I’d probably pick Windows 98 (95, NT and 2000 are also options), I’ve had the bust luck with that one for older games.

There is no guarantee it will work, just one more thing to try, YMMV.

I know I’m not answering the question you asked, but have you considered upgrading to Photoshop 7.0?

I used Photoshop 3.5 for a few years and never really liked it. About a year and a half ago I upgraded to Photoshop 5.5 and found it to be A LOT better.

A few months ago I bought the upgrade to Photoshop 7.0 and really, really like it. (If you specifics as to why, e-mail me; certain things are a lot easier and faster.)

As you already have an older version of Photoshop, you could buy the upgrade to Photoshop 7.0 for about $150.00. You could probably find a used version of a upgrade to Photoshop 6.0 or 5.5 for a lot less.)

As you would have a version of Photoshop that came out after XP you might solve your compatibility problems as well.
