I was watching a documentary this morning about Chinese children being adopted and brought to Canada. There was this family in rural Quebec that had 4 children; 2 boys, 2 girls. Since they live in the middle of nowhere I can imagine that it would be difficult for them when they grow up to meet other Chinese people (if that’s what they wanted)… made me wonder, could the children marry each other since they are not blood related?
In the U.S., rules on what is and isn’t incest is dependant on local law; I don’t know if it’s the same in Canada, but I bet it is.
In Virginia, for instance, siblings, whether natural or adopted, cannot marry. However, first cousins can. Other states feel that cousins are too close and that such a marriage would be incestous, while they permit the marriage of adoptive siblings as long as they are not related by blood.
