I posted in this thread about ads hijacking the back button so that you stay on the page when clicking back. The solution I mentioned, clicking on the back button’s dropdown, doesn’t always work anymore. Sometimes, getting on for once a session, all you get is a whole series of redirect urls. The only way to get back to the original page, in my case this will be the new posts search pages, is via history. At the end of the day this can make for a great guessing game as I try to figure out which of the many “search results” pages was the one I was at. It is … irritating.
Have you read this recent thread about issues with ads?
Here.
See post 2 by Michael63129. Maybe Adblock may help?
Who else is seeing this? Trying to get a feel for how much/how often this is happening.
Is it tied to any particular ad? What do you see when you see this?
Any information that could help pin this down is helpful. Just complaining about it without supplying detail gives us nothing to work with and no way to determine what’s happening.
This happens to me pretty much every single day. Has been going for about a month or two.
It’s taken a while to get back to you as the whole thing settled down for a while with just the occasional simple redirect. This weekend though I have three examples for you:
27 Sept Thread: Dr Who Newbie Stuff, CS
Banner Ad EDF, blue and price promise
Median AD UKF REX foreign exchange
Bottom Paddy Power
29 Sept, 23.18 Thread: Call the Midwife, CS
Banner Ad Marrakech Travel
Median AD IQ test, how many elephants (I don’t know what this advertises)
Bottom Santander
29 Sept 11, 23.20
Banner Ad Amex Gold card
Median AD Disney
Bottom Marrakech travel
NB the majority of these ads are UK targeted. Hope you can do something with this.
One workaround… run your search in one tab, then open the threads in a separate tab. Refer back to the original search results tab rather than reloading it new each time.
That’s a good idea Irishman.
Bumping this thread once more to say that I’ve caught an actual ad at it in the wild. It’s EDF energy blue with an orange cottage loaf sitting in a window looking out at either rain or snow. It’s animated.
I wouldn’t even call that a workaround. I honestly found it unusual that the OP wasn’t already doing this. I’m pretty sure that’s why no one else notices. (It’s not adblock, as many dopers have an ethical problem with using that.)
Agreed, that’s what tabs are for.
I agree. That’s why I pointed it out. If he’s using the back button to go back to a search results page, he’s doing it wrong.
Doesn’t keep me from using the back button navigating pages, but I don’t have to hunt search results.
