The part where you actually said “Some of us just aren’t into that kind of stuff, just like some don’t like horror…” and various other things, as opposed to “I haven’t liked any of the recent animated films that I’ve seen”, which is a perfectly reasonable position, and causes me not to want to argue with you, but to pity you.
 Figures.
There’s one angle to this question that hasn’t been mentioned yet. I am 23 years old. I much prefer watching movies that would generally be classified as childrens’ movies to watching those targeted to adults. During the past year, I’ve seen the following movies in theatres:
Sahara
Kung Fu Hustle
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Xathurra
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
King Kong
The Chronicles of Narnia
Syriano
Pride and Prejudice
Hoodwinked
So five kids’ movies out of eleven total, or six if you count King Kong. Usually I take my younger cousins along, but I’m not above seeing Curse of the Were-Rabbit by myself.
Why? Because kids’ movies are usually in better taste. It’s not an inherent difference in quality; both categories feature some good films and some bad films and a lot of average films. But somehwere along the line, the studios decided that adults are only interested in sex and toilet humor when they watch comedies, and only want explosions and predictability in their action movies. Consequently that’s all you’ll see in a movie targeted at high school- are college-aged folks. Kids’ movies obviously don’t carry a guarantee of good taste, but there are limits to how far they can go. That forces the writers to come up with at least some originality, if they wan’t to keep the movie entertaining. Hoodwinked has a far more complicated plot and better jokes than any major non-childrens’ movie that will be released this year.
