I don’t know if this is the correct forum, or whether direct medical advice is even permitted at all. If not, I apologize.
Before I ask my question I should state that I have set up an appointment with my doctor, on Friday. I could possibly get in to see him earlier. I suppose I just want some reassurance.
I’ve been on the asthma medication Advair for about a month. A week ago, I began to get slight pains in my chest and left shoulder. They’ve been pretty constant since then, not serious but their very presence has kept me from getting much sleep from worry. In the past few days I’ve developed a stomach ache that comes in pretty serious twangs but goes away when I eat.
I read last night that chest pains are a known side effect of Advair. How common is this? Would it be good for me to get really worried, and see a doctor as soon as possible? Is it just as likely to be something else? I’m a 23 year old male in reasonably good health, but overweight. Blood pressure, pulse rate, and cholesterol have always been on the low side of normal (I take note of these things; heart disease does run in my family).
I assume you’ve found the information about side-effects on the web?
In your shoes, I’d go see, or at least call, my local pharmacy. I assume that you are at least a famliar face to one or more pharmacists where you get your prescriptions filled, aren’t you? They sometimes have access to more information than is given to the public. In addition, they are as often the recipient of patient information/complaints as doctors are. If anyone can reassure you while you’re waiting to see the doctor, your pharmacist is the one.
