Advertised Gasoline Prices

Why is it, when gasoline is advertised at $2.959/gallon, that I see $2.96 but media personnel see $2.95? emproche

Because just about every gas station in the US does their pricing that way, and the media assumes you’re smart enough to know that but not smart enough to understand rounding up.

I’d assume that part of it is taxes. The other part of it is what menage-geek said. We’re too stupid to realize that 2.599 is pretty much 2.60.

The worst part is you don’t get your 1/10 of a cent change back.
