Do the US TV stations really continue taking advertising breaks during play in matches?
I watched some football matches about 12 years ago in the US and was livid to have interuptions every 5 minutes, the commentators coming back from the adverts to say “oh, you just missed a goal. We’ll show you that later…”
Will they do this during the upcoming World Cup too?
(heres hoping they have grown up and have realised the sport is more important)
While I disagree that the sport is more important than the survival of the network (TV costs them money, you know), US tv hasn’t shown ads during play for soccer games since the 94 world cup, at least. Perhaps some small channel somwhere still shows ads, but ESPN, ABC, and every other soccer-showing network that I can think of uses the constantly showing score box with a corporate sponser, and every 5 minutes or so, they say something like “This portion of the game is being brought to you by Budwiser” and change the logo accordingly.
I don’t think any UK TV company has ever put ads in during play, the channels that show ads put them in just before kick off, one at each end of half time and at the final whistle.
