Advice for a terrible WoW player

Can I just say that I’ve never seen this wowarmory site before, and I think it’s just so cool!!

(…having spent the last several minutes checking out my toons and friends’ toons)

I think Blizzard put that in about six months ago (or am I way off and it was a year?).

I don’t know how closely you’ve examined the site, but there is a feature there that is very helpful to leveling toons. Beside each piece of your gear, there’s a yellow arrow. Clicking on that arrow will take you to a list of upgrades for that piece of gear…you’ll be able to see the stats on the suggested upgrades, and also learn how to get the upgrade…either where it drops or what guest gives it as a reward.

Answering your questions:

  • Yes, the warrior I referred to has potions, sharpening stones and scrolls. I rarely go into battle without several buffs, even including being well fed.

  • I certainly make use of race’s abilities when I can.

  • As I mentioned in the OP, my highest level toon is 56 (except for my DK, who is 62).

  • I can play hunters better than any other class, so far. As I said above, I rarely get into trouble in PvE with my hunter. It’s PvP that seems to be my weakness, since I haven’t mastered how to keep players from killing me off. I’m not sure what the technique is to manage opponents that ignore your pet. To date, my efforts have concentrated on hamstringing and traps while backing away, but that’s been frustratingly ineffective so far.

Heh, I did that last week. Was absolutely convinced I had failed the midterm. No question in my mind about that.

Then he handed them back and I had the top score in the class (by a 10 point margin). I still have no idea how I managed that.

I’m not a hunter expert, and I’m mostly a PvE hunter, but Beast Mastery seems to be the PvP spec. Why? Because in PvP your Pet is basically a killable Damage over Time spell, however nobody WILL kill it, because then you get to use YOUR attacks while they’re busy. I don’t know if it still is, but bestial wrath used to be the original “fuck you” spell in PvP.

The key is mainly what you’re doing already, but minus the traps (unless you’re in mass PvP or you get the jump on someone, in which case things change a little). Basically you’re gonna wanna hamstring/wing clip people and then try and use things like concussive shot after you get distance, also, you should ESPECIALLY use things like serpent sting (because it continues doing damage even if they get in melee, your weak element).
