Advice on a cheap finding a CD drive/Would this CD drive work for my needs

The CD drive in my laptop just crapped out.

I need:

  • A CD drive to rip CD’s into iTunes
  • It needs to work with my laptop - Dell 600m
  • It needs to be cheap (I will be replacing my computer soon so I don’t want to spend much, if it is more than about $20 I would rather just wait)
  • It does not need to be portable or able to burn discs

Can anyone recommend a drive that meets those needs?

Would this drive work for me?

Please close this. I just realized that I have an old CD drive.

Depending on your notebook model, if it’s an older model you could probably get a used notebook drive specific to your model to fit it for a reasonable price unless the notebook is brand new. Notebooks often fail due to screens and MBs failing, and still have usable CD drives. The key is the difficulty of swapping the drive out on your particular model.
