Advice on selling classic car

Here’s the deal…when my mom died I inherited her car. It’s a '71 Chevy Malibu, cherry red w/ black vinyl top, under 1OOK miles and in prime condition. Most parts are original, excepting new suspension, exhaust, etc. She coddled it like a baby (heated garage, meticulous maintenance, the works) so it has a few “age cracks” in the upholstery but overall it’s in excellent condition.

I frankly don’t much enjoy driving it. It’s great, it kicks ass on dry pavement and in warm weather, but it’s so engine-heavy the traction is lousy. Plus I have zero interest or aptitude in mechanical stuff. The car is simply wasted on me, and I’ve finally gotten beyond the duty/emotional investment in it.

Interested buyers aren’t the problem. It’s a guy car; they bug me at stoplights, in parking lots, etc. wanting to buy it. I literally have a list of names of people who want to buy it. But there’s the problem; most “generously” offer me maybe a thousand for it. The rear bumper assembly alone (original, unmarked) would sell for $900.

I’ve looked up the book values, but values are what someone is willing to pay. I honestly don’t care or expect to make megabucks from selling it. But I don’t want “sucker” stamped all over my forehead either. Maybe there’s still a bit of attachment/duty too, because I’d really like the car to go to someone who’d appreciate it. My frugal, Depression generation mom preserved it well, and it just seems wrong to squander that. It’s a fine, classic car even though it’s not my kinda car.

Any suggestions? Auctions? Organizations? (Help!)

The car sounds fabulous! I love that era of muscle cars. I have a '68 Plymouth Fury big block V8 for a nice weather road cruiser. It can eat rice rockets for breakfast and spit the remains out the tail pipe.

I looked here: http://www.manheimgold.com/club_lo.html
and found the value to be anywhere from $1700 - 4900 depending on which model it is. That site, BTW, is about a year out of date, though.
