Hey all you wonderful people out there.
I live w/ my mom & stepdad in VA. We recently moved into a new house after being chased out by our landlady. Not long after we moved out on Jun. 30, said landlady sued my mother for about $400 as an “unpaid deposit” (which I witnessed my mom pay).
Fast-forward to two days ago. Court postponed the trial until Jul. 31, apparently because of “damages,” i.e, things that went wrong and had been wrong before we even moved in two years ago. For example, the pipes burst through no fault of ours twice during our stay there, once being so bad as to collapse the ceiling above the kitchen. Carpet cleaners that were supposed to show up a week after we had settled in, didn’t. And mold came up under the floor in the downstairs bathroom. Said landlady is insured for all this. I am planning to read the lease of our former abode (mom has a copy). Any advice, legal or otherwise, regarding my family’s situation would be very much appreciated.
