Anyone??? Bueller?? Anyone??
Especially the negatives. Don’t want to (CAN’T!!) drop $170 on one if it doesn’t work. Thanks.

Could you posssibly give a hint as to what an Aerogarden is?
I love mine! The only drawback I’ve found is that shipping on the new seed pods (or live plants, in the case of the strawberries) is expensive - I wish I could find a local seller so I wouldn’t have to pay for shipping. But they just released a new kit, where you can put your own seeds in the pods, and it comes with generic nutrient pellets for a year. I don’t except I’ll yield quite the fantastic results as their hand-picked-for-the-system varietals, but I’m looking forward to playing with it.
But I really like having fresh green stuff growing. It cheers me up whenever I walk by it, it’s pretty in my kitchen and it means some of my compulsive nibbling is on lettuces instead of chips! My toddler thinks it’s just the coolest thing ever (as does everyone who comes over and sees it.) Of course my pothead friends want to try growing illicit things in it!
(Yes, Google may be my friend, but I thought it might be polite for the OP to do the searching…)
I can tell you that some of the stuff in their advertising is bunk… they’ve got lots of plants that will WAY outgrow that space and become a pain. It looks like simple hydroponics set up with some bells and whistles. I would think you could do the same a whole lot cheaper if you have any sense for plants - do you?
Do you have an Aerogarden? Which plants have outgrown their space? They use dwarf varieties of some plants (the strawberries, for sure), and as long as you harvest them on schedule, they’re not a problem. My lettuces (regular size, like the mix you can get at the grocery store) got a little leggy after 5 months when I was away for a week, but they were already a month past the promised harvest window, so I was more than happy with the yield.
This has been discussed a few times over at the gardenweb.com forums (great place to find out lots of advice on all kinds of gardening topics) and the consensus seems to be that you could indeed probably set up a hydroponic system of your own for less money, but this thing is indeed a viable way to grow plants if you can spare that kind of cash.
Sorry, Fetchund. I figured those that had one or considered one would know what I was talking about. I am sorry I didn’t provide more information.
