Exactly. Which some prefer. And some enjoy a mouthfeel that is actually based on having just a slight amount of sediment, not grit, just a subtle sense of texture.
I’ve wondered before if the difference in who prefers what tracks with other preferences - like sorts of wines or desserts …
Thank you for this thread. Based on it, I ordered my Aeropress. It arrived today; I just brewed my first cup of coffee, using the basic method. It’s incredibly quick and easy, and the coffee is very very good and smooth.
Previously, I liked Turkish coffee best, but it takes forever to brew – though it is perfect for those of you who like sediment or a gritty mouth feel. But now, this is best.
Besides, pushing the plunger through is strangely pleasureable.
I made iced coffee this afternoon with the Aeropress and it was excellent. Just poured the concentrate over ice, stirred a bunch, added about an inch of water to the glass, some cream, and yum!
We received our fresh beans from Sweet Maria’s, but the first little batch came out under done. More experimentation in store for the weekend!
I had a bit of an Aeropress mishap this morning. I decided to try to make a massive iced coffee, so I went whole hog with four scoops. With four scoops of coffee and water up to the four, the thing is pretty full. The coffee also seems to “expand” a bit when the water hits it. Anyway, with the water almost all the way to the top, putting the plunger in is tricky. I must have gotten it slightly skewed, because hot coffee shot out the side and all over everything! Thankfully, no injury or permanent property damage (except perhaps some stained clothes), but it was a mess. I think next time I’ll either do two runs of two or at least limit it to three.
