Affrimative Action

For those that support AA, please explain how discrimination now (against White and Asian people) makes up for discrimination in the past. Where in the Constitution do you find the rational for this discrimination? Why should a White or Asian student be rejected from a college when they have numbers that would result in admittance for a minority? Why don’t you consider this racism? Why shouldn’t Asians be considered a minority is it because they can, on their own merit, get the numbers required for admittance? Why do you think minorities can’t compete on equal grounds? Do you thin minorities are just so stupid to compete with white people?

I think whites and minorities should compete equally since they are equals. Why don’t liberals think this way? Are they racist and think minorities can’t compete on equal ground?

Did you ever consider doing a search? I mean, it’s not like we’ve never discussed this before.

If there were a new SCOTUS decision involving AA, or some major policy change by the Government, a thread like this might be worthwhile. But, AFAIK, neither of those two things has happened recently, so this isn’t worth beating to death again.

Gee, the same old, tired, broad-brush claims that were trotted out a week or two ago in Affirmative Action – Fighting Racism with Racism (where, had you been genuinely interested in discussion, you could have participated).

(And you would not even have had to misspell the title.)

I’m a strong opponent of AA. And while I think there are many supporters of AA who use it as an extortion scheme, I do think that most liberal supporters of AA actually think they are righting a wrong. Many liberals think that a main purpose of government is to correct social inequaties. I don’t.

But I agree with Early Out in that there is nothing new to be debated on this subject at this time.

Well, we could twist the invasion of Iraq around and treat it as a conservative affirmative action, social welfare program for Shiites, but that’d be a bit of a stretch.

Many conservatives were content to leave the darkies as 2nd class citizens or worse. I, for one, am glad liberals didn’t let that happen.

The scales of equality will never level until everyone keeps their damn hands off of it…

Other than that, this is a dead issue – kinda of like digging up a coffin and taking a peek inside to see how the deceased are doing in there…

I’d also like to point out that the “making up for past discrimination” is only part of the argument and it’s not even accepted by all who support AA.

Can’t say I’m sorry to see the little “BANNED” designation.
