African Philosophy - Politically Charged Stuff

I have had the chance to read quite a bit of politically charged western and even eastern philosophy. Very seldom has a college prof made reference to African philosphers.

I have read stuff by Anthony Appiah and Kwasi Wiredu, both are from west Africa, and have some really interesting concepts. Understanding African philosophy is made simpler thanks to these guys.

Wiredu’s theme in his work is that African’s do now have free speech and aren’t politically autonomous because they do not have a full stomach. Being well nourised is a prerequsite to having the liberty to speak.

There’s lots more, but my question is: Are there any African philosophers that you know about that you reccomend? Pls advise.

Pls don’t all answer at once.

Oh another great book to read is Wole Soyinka’s - Death and the king’s horseman.

If anyone want’s to see what colonial Nigeria was like. Soyinka does a great job of illustrating the need to respect individual cultures, no matter what. I really liked this play, (yes it’s a play). Anyone read it? thought, comments or otherwise?
