A friend of mine says that they filmed scences for the movie in Rhode Island. Rhode Island? IMDB says otherwise, http://imdb.com/title/tt0043265/locations
but could some minor scenes really been filmed there?
According to The Making of the African Queen by Katherine Hepburn it was all filmed in Africa, except for the parts where they’re wading in the river. Those couldn’t be done on location because of nasty parasites in the water, and were done instead in a tank in the studio.
Ha! That’s pretty ironic, considering that one of the scenes in question involves them getting covered with nasty parasites from the water.
Actually, it was just Bogart. Not that I’d have minded seeing handfuls of salt rubbed over Katherine Hepburn’s seminude body.
And even more ironic as in one of her next films, Summertime, Katherine Hepburn had to fall in a Venice canal during the filming, and due to the pollution in the canal, she got an eye infection that ruined her eyes.
You’d have to deal with Spencer Tracy, pal.
What was the song Charlie Allnutt was singing in his cups?
Meh, he’ll never leave his wife.
Tough guys like Tracy and Bogart beat up whom they will, not as directed by their wives.
The Bold Fisherman, with I think some odd lyric changes (doesn’t he say “piggy” instead of “codfish”?).
I’ll have to dig out my copy, I believe it’s “To catch the bold piggy and the (something-something) do.”
Thanks, Biffy!
I remember it as “To catch the wild piggy and the gay macaroo.” Whatever that means.
Yum…“the gay macaroo”…the best and tastiest part of The Gay.
