I just finished the last episode of After Life. I won’t describe the episode, I’m just wondering what others thought of it. At first, I was kind of taken aback and not sure what to make of it. I had all kinds of explanations running through my mind. But then I read what Ricky Gervais was trying to convey. I’m ok with it now.
I thought it was powerful, even though it wasn’t a “surprise” ending in any way. Can you link to what you read that explains “what Ricky Gervais was trying to convey?” I’d be interested in reading that.
His explanation is also what I took away from it. Gervais is a staunch and vocal (sometimes too vocal) atheist, so any religious interpretation would be out. It was another excellent series from him, although, as with most of his work, the story arc is somewhat predictable.
I don’t agree with his views on God and faith, but he ended this series very well.
At one point while I was watching, earlier in the final season, I kept thinking how depressed, sad and miserable all of the characters were. Then when in the final episode it all changed for everyone, it made me smile. I guess I didn’t find it predictable at all.
