… what product do you think will steve jobs “shock n awe” you with ?
I’m holding out for the iButler, a gleaming white personal robot valet.
Well, that or the iHo…
Well let’s see, he’s hit graphical user interfaces, communicators (the iPhone) and information pads (the tablet), so next must be comm badges–they’ll be like BlueTooth headsets, but less obvious and geeky. Then he’ll have Star Trek pretty well covered, assuming Apple isn’t in a position to develop the warp drive or artificial gravity. I predict the company will then get mired down in the problem of universal translation.
Home media.
Yes, we already have the Apple TV. But I think it could be vastly expanded. Right now, to set up a HTPC (home theater personal computer), you have to be extremely computer-saavy. Add in DVD ripping, data storage, linking up with both the TV and speakers, etc., and it’s not something the masses want to deal with. I see a larger, more integrated Apple TV that replaces the HTPC and could very well replace your AV receiver*. It’d also pull in Hulu/Netflix/Pandora/etc., just like bluray players are starting to do right now (Hulu being the current holdout).
Right now, they’re working with the networks to sell TV episodes for $1 each, instead of the $3 they are now (that turns a 20 episode season from a $60 subscription to $20 - the price of the DVD set). That right there makes things extremely interesting. When I think of what I’d pay for just FX (on which I only watch “It’s Always Sunny”) or just AMC (to watch “Mad Men”), it comes down to about $1/episode. And I usually end up buying the DVD afterwards!
*Completely overhauling the AV receiver might not be in their capabilities - I’m not sure what sort of partnership they’d need to pull that off.
iDeck, anyone?
Dude, you’re a genius. Read the post just above yours with regard to that…
Where are all the geeks of this board ?
Game Room, probably
We totally need the iCorder.
They’d just need to hook up with any one of the dozens of companies that make audio gear. I don’t envision that happening, though.
As a source device, the AppleTV is a great start. I might not mind an updated device that melds an AppleTV with a Blu-Ray player that can do all of the iTunes, YouTube, Netflix, etc. streaming. But, I wouldn’t be in any rush to buy one that also included an amplifier. I’ve already got a 7.1 channel surround system with a subwoofer and have no plans of changing it.
Not to mention, anything computer-driven goes obsolete rather quickly. Amplifiers do not go obsolete quickly - until about two months ago, I was using the same 5.1 channel surround amp that I bought 18 years ago. And even then, it was only because it was finally starting to fail - 7.1 channel surround isn’t a “killer app” that will make millions of people dump their 5.1 channel systems just because it’s new.
iGame? I don’t think Apple could outdo the Wii though.
True. Scrap the receiver aspect - other than maybe putting an output on it for those sound bars (hell - I just spent 10 minutes trying to find a picture of the back of those - what sort of input DO they use?). Would 7.1 analog out be feasible for something like that to go to a receiver? It’s a dying way to do it these days, and may not be necessary anymore.
The iTV. Their own flatscreen 1080p TV. With built in wifi, iTunes, internet, music, DVR, and media sharing. All done the Appley way.
Geeks? On this board? Get out of here…
How about the pair of jeans he can wear that doesn’t make him look like an old man trying to look young.
Seriously, I’ve seen old guys in jeans and they don’t look nearly as bad as he does. His causual look is so perfectly planned he comes off as a “hipster doofus”
I have it on pretty good authority he’s going to announce a revolutionary new kitchen device, which resembles a butter knife. It’s for spreading butter on your bread, and only costs about two times more than competing butter knives already on the market.
