In English, ‘-age’ is added to some words to indicate a quantity of something, usually in a ‘hip’ manner. For example, ‘You up for some foodage there, Bob?’ or ‘It was maximum suckage.’ or ‘Got any drinkage?’
Do people do this in other languages?
In Dutch, you can verb pretty much any noun just by using it as a verb. You can also “belittle” many nouns - and most people do - by adding “tje” or “je”: “lepeltje” is a little spoon, as in teaspoon, “glaasje” is a little glass, as in a fairly substantial glass of beer. etc.
Hm… Not exactly what I was looking for, if that’s a ‘standard’ usage. Adding ‘-age’ is a more ‘whimsical’ usage.
Well, of course the whimsical usage of ‘-age’ is just an extension of the standard usage…
