Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S02E13: One of Us

Nope, Adama
Declan

I agree with most Lightray’s assessment
I’m fine with things not paying off (Hunter’s escape–it’s more cliched if he HAD escaped) but things didn’t really gel.

I’m pretty “hip” to all the Marvel characters but other than Angar, were any of Cal’s crew MCU versions of comic characters? Adriana La Cerrated (I’m seeing if that will catch on…probably not since I don’t think many people remember her last name on The Sopranos) seems like a silly comic character-- She has exacto knives on her FINGERS! But she doesn’t fit any of the ones I can think of. The strong guy was doing a lot of charging so I was thinking maybe he was Man Bull.

I think new SHIELD is an official shadow-organization run by those big wigs we saw in Avengers and Winter Soldier. No reason to think they all shrugged their shoulders and said “well, let’s just shut it all down and not do anything with it.”

The three stars might refer to this being the 3rd iteration - 1st SSR, 2nd SHIELD as we knew it under Fury and 3rd this new one.

Great idea. Right up to the point where they compared the budget for filming a couple dozen hallucination sequences versus the budget for filming a bunch of people falling over.

They just cant resist a catfight or to have May kick some ass- even when it’d be far easier just to shoot them. They waste a lot of story time with pointless combats. Starting to get annoying.

Did anybody else noticed the seated football player capturing Angar’s walk onto the field with his cell phone? Why, exactly, would a suited-up, actively-practicing football player be carrying a cell? (I’m sure it was just an instance of an extra taking some shots to tweet, but it made it on screen, so it’s canon.)

DrDeth - I agree, especially since they have Icers. Hell, Skye used one on herself last week. We also know they work in sniper rifles, so why not just shoot down everybody from the top of the stands before they get a chance to do shit?

Do these people not know Fury is alive? Now would be a good time for him to show up.

Why would you assume that? The guy is central in the frame not slightly blurry in the background. I think it’s more likely that we’ll see the footage posted and commented on in a future episode as evidence of SHIELD doing a poor job of keeping a lid on things.

Or it’s just a culture joke that people whip out their phones and start recording the moment anything that might be interesting happens.

Not until we get some intra-mural squabbling done. We know that (AoU spoiler)Fury shows up for the goings-on. Where and when are unknown, but he’s been seen in scenes. We can be reasonably sure that whatever they are going to be dealing with the back half of the season is going to have something to do with AoU. Both Gregg and Renner have been teasing a Hawkeye cameo on AoS lately, which would seem to be the connection. So I don’t see Fury showing up anytime soon.

He doesn’t have to show up in person. I’d rather he didn’t anyway. His last guest appearance was really phoned in. It just needs to become known he’s around and personally appointed Coulson the director of Shield.

Bobbi and Mac shouldn’t get away with just saying “oops, our bad.” It’s pretty crappy working with Coulson’s team this whole time and not realizing, “hey, these guys are good guys.”

Ward is interesting. He’s a villain with a compelling backstory and a motivation I care about. Cal isn’t firing on those cylinders yet, or maybe ever. Whitehall was more interesting but even he was a “meh” in the long run. Gordon so far is a deus ex machina but I assume there will be lots more there.

Edward James Olmos always brings gravitas to his roles, so I have some high hopes. And I don’t think this alternate SHIELD will be the Big Bad, but it can be interesting. So far I don’t find Bobbi and Mack’s actions to be believable, but I’ll wait and see.

I have to agree that this was a huge letdown of an episode. A lot of potential squandered.

I’m still trying to figure out if the Avengers know Coulson is alive. It’s really stretching credibility to think they wouldn’t by this point.

Well, Tony knows for sure, and he’d tell Banner. Sif said she wouldn’t mention it to Thor, but Heimdall certainly would, and he has been watching closely enough to see the Kree. We have no idea what Rogers has been up to, but I’ve no doubt Natasha would have found out by now. So that leaves Hawkeye, and Natasha probably told him.
Yeah, they know.

They should know… but I can see that being a reveal they save for AoU.

If Cal’s radio broadcast actually reached anyone, then the whole world knows Coulson’s alive now.

We don’t know any of that is true. The only way Tony would know is if Maria Hill told him; why would she? And for that matter, if she had, it’s not too certain that Tony would remember (unlike Pepper, who pays attention to people).

Heimdall seeing everything gets ridiculous at a certain point. His noticing Phil Coulson – whom Heimdall does not know from Adam – and remembering to mention it to Thor (who does not live in Asgard after the events of Dark World) is beyond ridiculous.

Rogers thinks SHIELD is destroyed, declined to work with Fury, and was headed off the grid himself.

Natasha may have found out, and she’s probably still in contact with Fury, but she was going off on her own for a while after Winter Soldier, and unlikely to have been in contact with the other Avengers until Age of Ultron’s events.

The most likely way any of the Avengers knows about Coulson being alive would be through Talbot… and he doesn’t seem the type to want to work with them.

I’m sure after 1000’s of years Heidall has learned not to gossip about what he sees. He’s not really the chatty type anyway.

Nutjob raving on a local AM station? Even if anyone heard it, why would they believe it, or care enough to tell anyone else?

I’m wondering why none of the parents showed up at the high school to find out why their kids never came home from football/cheerleading practice.

You kind of answered your own question. The events at the football stadium wouldn’t go unnoticed. There should have been cops swarming the place when the kids didn’t show up at home. Unless, the voice guy took out the whole town, but that would definitely make the news.

Why would Hill be the only one who could tell Stark that Coulson is alive? Considering it was supposed to be a Level 7 secret that he was alive back at the start of the series, Coulson has never made any special efforts to conceal himself. He’s met with a couple hundred people since his supposed death. And none of the people he meets seem surprised to see him - so apparently the fact that he’s not dead is pretty well known.

And you really think Tony Stark wouldn’t remember if he found out Coulson was alive? The key point here is alive. Stark saw Coulson’s corpse. Finding out that somebody has the power to bring dead people back to life is not the kind of thing that would slip your mind.

Plus there’s the fact that all of the Avengers have had their suspicions about Shield and what Fury had concealed from them. If Talbott is trying to take down Shield, why wouldn’t he go to the Avengers and tell them about how Fury and Coulson had lied to them again?
