Final two episodes of the season in a two hour finale. How many questions will be answered? How many new questions will we get? What’s Ward’s deal? Where did Mac go? Any hints on the third Marvel show that has been rumored, especially now that the Mockingbird Hunter one is off the table. Fun season!
Next year we’ll get Muppets as a lead in for SHIELD. With Muppets, Flash, Person of Interest, iZombie and Agents of SHIELD all on Tuesdays night there won’t be a better night of Television around.
With a Muppets lead-in I’m definitely going to have to get some sort of time-shifting going on.
Although this was a good finale, it felt too disjointed with Bobbi vs. Ward and the Inhumans going on at the same time. I know, set up for unrealized pilot series, but the timing would’ve been better sorted into two more focused episodes.
When Coulson’s hand started to turn to stone I was all “omg they aren’t going to kill Coulson again, are they?!” and then when he got the Walking Dead treatment I exclaimed “holy fuck!”
And that fakeout with Fitz and Gordon–I would have been pissed. Fitz is my favorite character.
I think the parallel between the Bobbi/Hunter story and the Ward/33 story worked (albeit heavy-handedly). Bobbi was willing to sacrifice herself to say a loved one and she survived. Ward put revenge as his priority and he ended up losing the one person he arguably loved. And now Ward’s relevant for next season as the guy who will restart Hydra.
The fish oil thing also serves to keep a plot open for next season. We’ll now have Inhumans popping up all over the world. I’ve said before that for all practical purposes, Inhumans are the MCU’s Mutants.
The third open storyline is the final scene: what happened to Simmons? Obviously, she could just be dead. But I think it’s more likely she’ll end up getting transformed in some way by the big blob. We’ve had all the foreshadowing about Simmons feeling superpowered beings are a threat - now we could see her dealing with that same paranoia from the other side.
I missed a couple parts while food was happening, might have to go back and rewatch. Lots of stuff packed in this episode.
Cal gets the Tahiti treatment. Hmmm. That’s pretty dark, and could go spectacularly wrong…
A secret super-team is forming, with Skye as a founder. Special effects budget going up?
Gemma gets eaten by the thing that may be a weapon against the Inhumans. And she pretty much hates powered people. Ironic if she becomes one…
Grant forming a team of his own, and also apparently taking over whatever is left of HYDRA? That could be interesting.
Not sure what to make of the fish oil. The crystal stuff would have to be very diluted when absorbed and filtered through fish. How much does it take to turn on a dormant Inhuman? How much to harm a regular person?
All in all, an excellent season. Can’t wait for the next one.
Agreed. Actually, that’s how I felt about the entire episode tonight. On the whole, I love how the show has turned out, and I’m glad I, and the network, stuck with it.
Lincoln could be back as Skye’s first super power team recruit. Sounds like an X-Man mutant team, staying secret but fighting evil, feared and hated by the general populace, especially after the fish oil takes out a bunch of people. Too bad about Gordon, I liked him. His powers were pretty handy.
Hm, Simmons doesn’t like Inhumans very much and gets sucked up by a Kree device designed to kill Inhumans. Could be interesting.
Coulson losing his hand was a shocker. Geez, that guy’s given a lot for Shield. He and Thor will have lots to talk about if he ever sees him again.
I was happy with how they dealt with Cal. He could be back sometime, although his part in the story seems finished.
She ripped the straps out with … her … super Mockingbird powers? I dunno.
Great ending, great season. Lots of resolution and a huge cliffhanger.
It won’t happen because this is a comic book show, but I think Kyle MacLachlan deserves an Emmy nomination for his work this season. Scary but funny, bat-shit crazy but always protective of his daughter. Plus he looked like he was having so much fun doing it.
And I thought it was really cool how his super-serum plus the adrenalin turned him into a bulked-up Bruce Campbell.
So, Simmons is gone?
Kyle MacLachlan was the best thing on this show. This season has been good throughout, unlike last season which was so so for the first 2/3 (admittedly awesome in the last strech). The decision to delink it from the movies was a good one…I think next season it will be held up by Civil War
I had to giggle when I realized that DrDeth got exactly what he asked for: next season is going to be all Skye and the Inhumans.
And with May on sabbatical, Bobbi recouperating (with Hunter alongside), and Coulson disarmed it’ll be an opportunity to have Skye, Skye, Skye all the time!
Hell, maybe they’ll cast an actual waify girl to serve as next season’s audience-POV-naïf and he’ll actually learn what the damn word means.
So I don’t know if you’re joking or not, but it did appear to be a completely different actor playing Cal after the serum finally took effect. Not Bruce Campbell though.
Can someone help me out with the “Why isn’t Coulson dead?” part? I’m not a regular follower of the show, so I was surprised to find him up and about. Is Agents of Shield not in the same continuity as the Avengers movie? I guess now it can’t be a prequel, because of that whole arm thing.
