“A Fractured House”

I won’t get a chance to watch the episode until tomorrow. But, as usual, I like putting a thread up to see what everyone has to say. Hopefully, I can put a recap together tomorrow night! Or, at the very least watch it so I can read this thread without spoiling it for myself.
I agree with Little Nemo. Excellent episode, seems like each one this season has been better than the one before. Great action/humor between Mockingbird & Hunter. Serious mind-fuckery by Grant and his brother. Poignant bits with FitzSimmons. Frosty resolve from Skye. Didn’t catch the name of the lead Hydra red shirt guy, but the way he used that odd knife-chain weapon made me wonder if he’s some minor heel from the comics.
Who was the guy with all the tattoos at the very end? Was that Whitehall? Skye’s dad? Someone new?
Loved the Ultron teaser, but I think they should’ve let Cap at least budge Mjolnir a little bit.
Don’t wanna wait two weeks for the next episode–but the Marvel special next week should be fun.
Hard to see because of the quality of the sneak peek currently up, but Rogers does move Mjolnir the tiniest little bit. Not enough for anyone else or even Rogers to notice, but the smile on Thor’s face slips for just a moment before he returns to his “you’re all not worthy” cockiness. Many people are speculating that this is a foreshadowing.
My favorite part was Coulson’s confrontation with Ward.
I thought it was the Belgian guy.
I thought they did. It looked like Cap was able to get it to move a little, which startled Thor.
According to IMDB, they weren’t planning on broadcasting this scene. They were going to show the regular trailer as they announced last week. But after that trailer got leaked online, they wanted to show something different so they broadcast the Mjolnir scene.
Yup, pretty good ep. I almost fell for Ward’s brother’s act, even after Ward warned Skye his brother would do exactly what he did. What’s Coulson’s angle, I wonder. Did Coulson know Ward would break free?
I like Simmons better when she’s not dressed like Hermione.
Hunter’s got the most personality of the whole team right now.
Skye’s dad is a monster, huh? Well so far he’s killed: a bunch of Hydra agents, two street thugs who probably deserved it, and a couple of Whitehall’s guards maybe. Not really that bad. Okay, he was covered in blood when we first saw him, but that could be anything. Is Skye’s father a monster?
So Ward managed to dislocate his thumb and remove the cuffs, while an FBI agent was actually watching him? If it wasn’t for the fact that he shot the driver, I’d have thought it was all planned.
We have no proof it was an FBI agent. In fact, at this point we have no evidence at all as to where Ward is or what he will be up to. I have my suspicions, but they are totally pulled out of my ass.
Excellent episode, and I agree - they just keep getting better and better. Too bad they couldn’t have done this last season (not totally their fault, but still…). Bobbi’s back to being blonde, as she should be, and gets to kick some serious ass, as does May. Really liked the little scene between May and Talbot.
The agents/SWAT guys who Coulson handed Ward over to had large “FBI” patches on their chests. You can see it a few times - when the guy takes Ward’s arm to lead him into the van, and the first guy who Ward hits after he slips the cuffs.
Good point. I did like the Agent Carter commercial, though they said it would be an 8 part series - is that the plan, just a miniseries, or is only 8 because it’s a mid-season show? Regardless, I’ll take all the Hayley Atwell I can get.
No and no. He is more of a fellow traveler than an ally. Nothing was established regarding his relationship with Senator Evil (R). In fact, I’d bet that that relationship will be featured in several upcoming episodes this season. Along with such questions as where is Ward and whether or not Simmons got a bit of foreshadowing.
It wasn’t Beckers. According to IMDB, the tattoo guy was played by Brian Van Holt, last seen as Bobby Cobb in “Cougartown”. Maybe he and Phil will bond over a rousing game of Penny Can.
BTW, we’re all assuming Phil did not fall for Senator Ward’s little “Grant was the evil one but blamed it all on me” speech, right?
It’s possible that this was a set-up between Coulson and Grant Ward. That Coulson was just fronting for the guards when he talked to Ward and he only agreed to turn Ward over to his brother in order to arrange for him to escape and carry out some mission to redeem himself.
But it seems really unlikely to me. All the stuff Coulson said about being betrayed by Ward was true - including the part about him killing Hand and Koenig. It would be way out of character for Coulson to collude with Ward, knowing that would involve Ward killing more agents in his escape.
But who knows? Maybe that is what happened. Coulson has toughened up since he became Director. Maybe we’ll find out that he was willing to go along with a few murders for what he sees as a greater good.
Yes, I think Coulson was more like “Both of you guys are evil so I have no problem selling one of you to the other one.”
It’s worth considering that Grant said his older brother used to manipulate him for his own evil purposes. Maybe that’s what’s happened here. Maybe Chris made the deal to have Grant turned over to the FBI because he knew Grant would figure out a way to escape and Chris has some plan to use this.
Dude has the worst luck with tattoos. He had one for a while on Sons of Anarchy until it was forcibly removed…
Yeah, Senator Ward almost had me there. I was starting to think that he was the straight up brother and Agent Hotcakes Traitorface was just lying but I soon started to think that both are screwy.
Coulson was flourishing that idiot ball so much I thought he’d joined the Harlem Globetrotters, which totally ruined any “surprise” at Ward’s escape.
They had Ward locked up in a cell where even the air supply is controllable by tablet. Furthermore, they have knock-out guns which apparently have no long-lasting effects. And they know that Ward is an Agent, trained to escape. Knock the F’er out, wrap him up in duct tape like a mummy, and send him out as dead-weight! There’s no cameras running that they had to make it look good for. Of course Ward escaped the handcuffs! Hell, May did the same damn thing in the opening episode (dislocating shoulder, rather than thumb, but even so).
Yeah, unless this was some elaborate plot to use Ward against his brother it reflects some pretty poor writing. No way Coulson does that type of transfer. Even to the stupidness of taking his hood off before loading him in the truck? Why would you do that?
