Agents of SHIELD - S02E11 - Aftershocks (open spoilers)

Love the alliance between Fitz and Skye. I think Simmon’s attitude change came a bit out of left field, but I’m willing to let it go. Obviously they won’t be able to keep this quiet for long, and lots of distrust when it comes to light.

Trying to figure out the subplot with Mack and Bobbi, love the toy Lola is being used for spying. That’s working on Coulson’s weaknesses. I still think this has something to do with saving Lucy Lawless, but I could be completely off base on that.

Hydra comes off pretty lame in this episode.

Nice ending, tying it in with the beginning. Eyeless guy is taking the role of Skye’s mom and helping folks who’ve just experienced terrigenesis.

I think Bobbi and Mack are working for Fury. They’re obviously not Hydra and that doesn’t leave too many other possibilities.

OK. I hesitate to ask this, but someone will surely be happy to fill me in.

The previous episode was so long ago that I can’t really remember what happened. They were in the alien city below Puerto Rico, and somebody turned into a bad guy and something exploded? Would someone be so kind as to summarize that plot for me?

Not remembering what happened really made watching this episode a challenge.

Yeah, they’ll be fitting Simmons for her SS uniform shortly. I thought it was interesting that Fitz is officially the first person in the MCU to say the word Inhuman.

The whole Hunter/Bobbie mission was good - first time we’ve seen SHIELD take a straight out assassination mission. It was fun to see Hunter shoot Hunter right between the eyes.

Skye, Raina, and Trip were inside the alien temple with the Obelisk/Diviner. Raina convinced Skye they should open the Diviner and let it do its thing. Trip snuck into the chamber just before the stone walls closed. The Diviner opened, revealing a bunch of blue crystals that gave off a gas. Skye and Raina became covered with some kind of rocky coating (which is what Cal presumably referred to as a “chrysalis” in this episode). Trip, seeing this, did a spin kick on the crystals, which caused them to explode, killing him. Then Skye and Raina broke out of their shells, Skye looking normal, Raina only showing a thorn covered hand and small part of her face.

That was amusing, in a meta sort of way.

Glad the show is back. I missed it. Agent Carter was fine.

Surely Hunter didn’t fall for “we’re going to group therapy.”

That was a nice coup they pulled off with the heads of Hydra. The team needs a solid win once in awhile.

Inhumans! I like the blind guy.

So is Cal an Inhuman or what? Something about the index and getting back together with some others?

I think he’s “or what.” Don’t know what yet.

Coulson’s “You’ll never take us alive”, followed by May calling him out on it was my biggest laugh for the episode.

I was a little lost in the episode because I was distracted.

That Hydra guy they captured then fake broke out of captivity, what did they want him to do, just lead them to that cabin with the Hydra table? How did Coulson know about all of the other heads of Hydra from that one guy leading them to a cabin?

Also, Hunter told that Hydra guy that he was sparing him for I guess all the bribes. How did it go from Hydra bribing him to leading him, for some reason, to that cabin with the other Hydra heads? You’d think they’d head to the nearest bank

And another thing that I didn’t catch, so Hunter was a fake Hydra agent. The broke out the Hydra guy from captivity. Who did Hunter say he was working for? And why didn’t the plan immediately get blown up when Hydra guy got to the cabin and talked to that other Big Hydra guy, wouldn’t they both be wondering who broke him out? It wasn’t Big Hydra guy, so who did they think it was?

I suppose Talbot is a possibility. But he seems like too much of a direct attack kind of guy. If Bobbi and Mack had been working for him, he’d have attacked Shield headquarters by now.

So Fury is a good guess. Unless they’re bringing Tony Stark into the series.

I actually think that Bobbi’s explanation and Mack’s rant both explain the why of what they’re doing. They want full disclosure of all SHIELD’s dirty secrets; no more trusting Fury (or Coulson). The question is, who else are they in with? It won’t be Fury; he’d already know what he hid in the box he gave Coulson, so no need to sneak in to find it.

Cal isn’t an Inhuman; he’s clearly differentiated himself from Raina, Skye, and Skye’s mom. The Index is probably the “SHIELD” list of superhumans, who used to be imprisoned in whatever SHIELD’s superprison was called (the Raft?).

The Vault

I think what happened was:
Hunter waited for Bakshi to call someone, anyone, high up in Hydra. Then he tells him he’s going to kill him. Implying that Hunter was under the orders of someone else high up in Hydra to kill Bakshi. So when Bakshi took him to the winery, they had (a) gotten some higher ups in Hydra to kill other higher ups in Hydra, and (b) gotten the location of whoever Bakshi would go to first, so they could kill him too.

From the initial Hydra meeting, it’s clear that Hydra encourages some “healthy competition” between the heads. So they have no problem believing that other heads are plotting to kill them.

YogSothoth, Coulson probably knew about the other Hydra heads from interrogating their captive.

The staged rescue was to make their captive think that Hydra wanted him back, then Hunter told him that “all of them” actually wanted him dead – so he thought he was being targeted by all the other Hydra heads.

He then took Hunter to the one Hydra head he could trust, promising (falsely) to reward Hunter. He and the one Hydra head doublecrossed the others (Shiek, Baroness, etc.) before they could themselves be doublecrossed, as they believed was going to happen. The other Hydra heads weren’t there; they were all in other locations. Since they were killed with the weaponized “Diviner”, it’d obviously been something that they’d had on contingency all along.

Once Hydra tried to kill Hunter – cleaning up loose ends – that was the cue for he and Bobbi to go in and kill the last Hydra head, and recapture their captive.

They guy who’d been passing instructions to all the Hydra heads from Baron Strucker survived, and was behind the attempt to capture Raina.

Hunter said that one group of Hydra leaders (the Banker, the Baroness, and the Sheik) had paid him to break Bakshi out and use him to locate Lighthouse. The other Hydra leaders wanted him to then kill Bakshi and Lighthouse. Bakshi convinced Hunter to change sides and went to Lighthouse. Lighthouse arranged to kill the other Hydra leaders.

So Lighthouse wasn’t suspicious about not knowing about the breakout because he thought it was a plan being directed against him.

My favorite line was “If you had scripted it we wouldn’t have said anything.”

It’s obviously not Fury having Bobbi and Mack break into the gadget he gave Coulson to learn Fury’s secrets, but it’s probably someone else ex-SHIELD. I’m thinking it’s most likely Maria Hill, working for Stark. But I think it’d be cooler if it was the Avengers – arranged by Natasha at the behest of Cap, for example (that’d also tie into Bobbi’s comics continuity as Mockingbird, who’s an Avenger).

Muldoonthief already recapped most of it. The person who turned into a bad guy was Mack. The alien artifact took over his mind while he was underground and used him to attack the others.

That wasn’t the Diviner (with Terrigen crystals inside) that took over Mack; it was the city itself. He got taken over when he touched some symbols or whatever on the floor of the city.
