ahh...aaahhhh...ANEURYSM!!!!!!!

hey I just wanted to add to the confirmation that holding in a sneeze can actually cause a brain aneurysm. 3 years ago my great uncle who was only about 63, was attending mass at his church. He was down on his knees IN THE MIDDLE OF PRAYER, when he had to sneeze. To keep from interupting the words of the Lord, he held it in. Well, my great aunt said he just fell backwards and was unconscious. He died in the hospital and the autopsy confirmed it was an aneurysm due to pressure. (i am an assistant at the medical examiners where the autopsy was done, and he had the tiny pin point hemorrhages known as petechiae hemmorrhages) so, i guess saying “bless you” will be taken a little more seriously now, lol.

Will suppressing a sneeze give you a brain aneurysm?

There’s a gap in this story. What we know is that your great uncle was in the middle of prayer at church, suddenly keeled over, and died of an aneurysm before regaining consciousness. How do we know that a held-in sneeze had anything to do with it? He certainly didn’t tell anyone himself.

oh sorry, my aunt said he had pulled out a handkerchief (which i find absolutely revolting, the fact that people carry snot balls in their pockets) right before he started wincing and fell over.

And how do we know he pulled out his handkerchief to cover a sneeze? It could have been a cough. Did he routinely pull out his handkerchief to cover his mouth when sneezing or would he pull it out to simply blow his runny nose, etc.
