AIDA! aida AIDA! aida...

Apparently Aida is playing in L.A. I’m not a fan of opera, so I’m not going. It’s certainly a well known opera, and I’m sure it’s got its good points; but the commercials play a clip from an annoying song that seems designed to drive people away! “AIDA! aida AIDA! aida…” It reminds me of a European siren or a car alarm: “DOO! doo DOO! doo…”

Just thought I’d share.

Oh I saw it on Broadway…We are talking about the musical, right? Well if we are I saw it in summer of 2000. It was okay…Disney-corny but fun songs…I do ocasionally listen to the soundtrack.

Ooohh… Aida is one of my favorite operas!

Yeah, is this the opera by Verdi, or the musical by Elton John and Tim Rice (IIRC)? I can’t recall anything like what you describe in the pieces of the opera that I’ve heard.

When you spell it that way, it reminds me of Eva Peron stepping out on a balcony and crooning, “Don’t cry for me Argentiiinaaaa!”
